Another Death Linked to COVID-19 in Chatham-Kent

Another Chatham-Kent resident has lost their life to COVID-19.

Officials with Public Health say a woman in her 60s succumbed to the virus while being treated in a hospital outside Chatham-Kent.

It marks the 31st death caused by the virus in the municipality since the pandemic began.

Meantime, there’s been a slight decline in the number of COVID patients at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

Hospital officials say there are 29 people being treated for the virus, down from 33 on Thursday.

Of those 29 patients, 19 are unvaccinated.

Six COVID patients are in the ICU, five on a ventilator.

85 hospital staff are currently off work because of testing positive for the virus or coming in close contact with a confirmed case.

ICU occupancy at CKHA sits at 70% today, the PCU (progressive care unit) is 75% filled, and the hospital’s medical, surgical and critical care units are 82.5% filled.
