As students, families, and educators prepare for a return to the classroom next Monday, questions remain about health and safety as cases of the Omicron variant surge.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kieran Moore will be holding a news conference at 1:30 this afternoon to update the province’s plans to return to in-person.

New guidelines from the Ministry of Health suggest students will only be able to get a PCR test if they develop COVID symptoms while they are at school.

As well, cohorts will no longer be dismissed if a fellow student tests positive, nor will schools notify families of classes with a positive case. 

Both the Lambton Kent and St Clair Catholic District School Boards were expecting delivery of N95 masks and additional HEPA filtration systems at the end of last week in anticipation of bringing staff and students back to school as soon as possible.
