CKHA Asks For $500,000 in Municipal Funding

A big ask from the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance as municipal council begins this year’s budget process.

Officials from the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance made a deputation during Wednesday night’s opening budget presentation, asking the municipality for $500,000 for its proposed 10 bed residential withdrawal unit to help those who struggle with alcohol or drug addictions.

Chatham-Kent is the only jurisdiction in southwestern Ontario that doesn’t have a withdrawal unit, with local residents having to be referred to Sarnia or Windsor

CKHA is looking to spend an estimated $1.2 million in total to make renovations to the unit, which will only be built on the contingent of yearly operating funding from the province.

The $500,000 request will be dealt with by council during upcoming budget meetings.
