Ice Jams Possible Along the St Clair River

Conservation Authority officials are warning of the possibility of ice jams and flooding along the St Clair River.

A statement from the St Clair Region Conservation Authority says warmer temperatures and southerly winds earlier this week resulted in the deterioration of an ice bridge across Lake Huron, opening the St Clair River to ice movement.

Shifting winds since then have pushed ice and flow into the river, creating the potential for ice jams and higher water levels.

Officials say they’ll be keeping an eye on the river over the next few days, and remind the public to avoid flooded areas and slippery banks.
