The foundation tasked with raising money for the Chatham-Kent Hospice is now a nationally recognized organization.

The Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation has received accreditation through the Imagine Canada Standards Program, becoming one of 200-plus charities and nonprofits to be recognized across Canada.

“This stamp of approval re-affirms the Hospice Foundation’s commitment to achieving our goal of earning and keeping the community’s trust,” said Jodi Maroney, the executive director of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, in a news release. “We exist to provide our donors with the opportunity to be the behind-the-scenes heroes to our residents and their families. All of the care provided at [the] hospice would not be possible without our donor’s support.”

The Imagine Canada Standards Program is designed to strengthen the practices of Canadian charities and nonprofits and increase public confidence in the sector’s work through demonstrated transparency and accountability.

“This accreditation process reviewed how we handle each donation to ensure we are accomplishing our mission and ultimately helping hospice families through end of life and the loss of a loved one,” said Barb McEwan, the foundation’s governance committee chair.

The foundation’s announcement comes on the heels of the hospice’s own accreditation in December through Hospice Palliative Care Ontario as a Hospice Residence for 2021-2024.
