Prince Wins Ontario Heritage Trust Award

A huge honour for a local historian as Black History Month comes to an end.

Shannon Prince, curator of the Buxton National Historic Site and Museum, has been named this year’s winner of the Thomas Symons Award for Commitment to Conservation.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Trust awards recognize for her leadership and profound commitment to preserving Ontario’s Black heritage and history.

A statement from the Ontario Heritage Trust says Prince “has demonstrated exemplary commitment and dedication to the enrichment of the site, and of Black heritage in Ontario and beyond.”

The North Buxton resident has served as curator of the Buxton Museum since 1999, and still actively farms in Buxton with her husband and frequent collaborator, Bryan, and their four children.
