The redevelopment of the Wallaceburg site of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance has taken another step forward.
The hospital has chosen consultants Agnew Peckham as Health Care and Facility Planners for the next phase of the project, as well as architectural firm DIALOG Ontario.
“CKHA has developed a long-term plan for facility redevelopment of the Wallaceburg Site that encompasses its emergency, laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and medicine services,” Lucy Brun, Partner with Agnew Peckham Health Care Planning Consultants says. “This plan sets the foundation for the future model of care, encompassing services to address current and future community needs.”
As previously reported, the current design focuses on a newly constructed hospital building for the Emergency Department, medical beds, Diagnostic Imaging, and a laboratory. Plans also call for the emergency department to be converted into additional space for ambulatory care services, and the demolition of the hospital’s east wing.
CEO Lori Marshall has said the preliminary proposal for Phase 2 estimated that the project would cost roughly $25 million. However, the cost will likely be reevaluated once the planning process has been completed.
Meantime, the impacts of COVID-19 on materials, supply chains, and the trade industry as a whole are taking a toll on the newly built power plant. CKHA officials say that phase of the project, originally slated to be done early this year, will not be completed until May.
