Wallaceburg’s water tower is set to receive an upgrade.

The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission (PUC) said maintenance and rehabilitation have begun on the Joseph Shaw Wallaceburg elevated storage water tank, located at 6500 Otter Line.

The $3.7 million project will increase the reliability of the water tank for the next 20 plus years.

“Our goal has always been to provide a safe, reliable source of water for Wallaceburg, and this investment ensures that will continue,” said Councillor and PUC chair Councillor Carmen McGregor in a news release.

Over the next few months, scaffolding will be erected and the top of the tank will be shrouded to allow construction crews to make improvements and miscellaneous upgrades.  The rehabilitation project, which will be completed by BGL Contracting, will put the tower out of service from March until September.

The Wallaceburg elevated storage tank was originally constructed in 1999 and is one of 10 owned by the municipality.
