It’s down to the wire for any dog owners in Chatham-Kent who have yet to pick up their 2022 municipal tags.

Ben Van Eyk, manager of animal control for Pet and Wildlife Rescue, says the tags are more than just decoration for your pooch.

“If your dog ever goes missing, their unique number we’ll be able to look up and locate the owner information right away,” Van Eyk says. “Dog tag sales do help fund the operations of both our Wallaceburg and Chatham animal shelters, so it also helps stray dogs and cats and animals like that find homes.”

The tag will run you $28 if your pet has been spayed or neutered, $38 if not. An extra $10 will apply to any tags purchased after March 31st, owners of dogs caught without a license can be fined $240.

Dog owners can pick up their 2022 tags at any municipal office, the Chatham-Kent Animal Shelter on Park Avenue East in Chatham, or online through PAWR.
