Chatham-Kent’s COVID numbers continue to creep upwards. On Wednesday, Public Health reported another 76 high risk cases since the last update on Monday, raising the seven-day average to 32 new cases a day.
Officials note the number of confirmed cases is an underestimate of the true number of COVID-19 infections in Chatham-Kent due to testing restrictions, and only truly captures the number of high risk people eligible for PCR testing.
Four new outbreaks have been declared, three affecting group homes and one at Copper Terrace long term care. There are still ongoing outbreaks at the Oaks Retirement Village and one at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, with nine cases in the Continuing Care Unit.
The outbreak at the CKHA Medicine Unit at CKHA was declared over on Thursday. The outbreak was first declared on March 28 and resulted in 12 cases.
Meantime, more COVID patients are being treated at the Health Alliance, 28 as of Wednesday’s figures, seven of whom are being treated primarily for the virus, and one in the ICU.
