For the fourth consecutive provincial election, Progressive Conservative candidate Monte McNaughton has been elected in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.
McNaughton was first elected in the riding in 2011 and this will be his second term as a member of the governing party. He currently serves as Minister of Labour after being appointed to the position in 2019.
“When we first formed government back in 2018, many painted us as the party of business. However, as many of you know, my approach has always been having an open door and building lasting personal relationships wherever there is common ground,” McNaughton said during his post-election remarks.
The incumbent MPP also criticized the Liberal Party and NDP for focusing on “boutique social issues.”
“They care more about statues and street names than good jobs with pensions and benefits,” he said.
McNaughton earned more than 50 per cent of the overall vote on Thursday, with NDP candidate Vanessa Benoit earning the second most votes. Liberal candidate Bruce Baker came in third in the riding.
