Tens of thousands of dollars has been raised to help local residents living with dementia and their families.

Last month’s Walk for Alzheimer’s, the first in-person event for the local chapter of the Alzheimer Society, raised $47,000.

Officials say while it falls short of their $55,000 goal, it’s still a 12% increase over money raised at last year’s virtual event.

“All funds will stay in Chatham-Kent and directly support the 1000+ clients and care partners that ASCK servers every year,” Fund Development Coordinator Joel Emery says in a written statement. “Donations will ensure they have access to vital programs and services such as the Day Program, In-Home Respite Care, First Link Care Navigation, and education programs.”

Four walks were held across Chatham-Kent this year, in Tilbury, Blenheim, Wallaceburg, and Chatham, and organizers are hoping to grow the event even further for 2023.
