A customer service review report is coming to Chatham-Kent council tonight, with the report recommending that the municipality shut down underutilized service centres in the towns of Dresden, Ridgetown and Tilbury.

The Dresden Service Centre, which is located in the former town hall in the heart of downtown, shares a location with the ServiceOntario office, but the provincial office’s agreement is set to expire at the end of the year.

The report also recommends closing the Wheatley, Thamesville and Bothwell municipal information desks, which are located in libraries.

The report says that more people are increasingly using municipal services online—such as paying bills and getting permits, which significantly increased during the pandemic.

The report says that by closing the municipal service offices it would save taxpayers up to $173,000 a year.
