Anyone taking part in Canada Day celebrations should be prepared for some hot weather.
Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Chatham-Kent, with temperatures expected to reach 33 C on Thursday and Canada Day Friday. The humidex values are expected to be in the mid-thirties.
There will be little relief from the heat in the evening with the lows only dropping to around 21 C.
The heat is expected to taper off Friday evening.
The weather agency is warning of possible deteriorating air quality, which can present risks for young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with chronic illnesses.
Local residents are urged to drink plenty of water during the heat event and stay in a cool place. As well, people and pets should not be left inside a parked vehicle.
