Chatham-Kent council approved two unique proposals at the Chatham-Kent airport, with hopes it will help with growth and development at the municipal airport in the future
Council approved leasing out the municipal hangar at the airport to a numbered company for the next 40 years and approved a new hangar for Thamesville’s Greenhill Produce.
The numbered company wanted a 40-year lease term and offered the municipality over $1 million for the new lease of the municipal hangar.
Greenhill Produce wants to construct a new corporate hangar at the airport in part, to offer charter services. They also want to possibly construct a new taxiway at the airport to accommodate their needs.
Ryan Brown, Chatham-Kent’s director of public works, said both proposals will change the way the airport operates, but said there is huge potential at the airport with the new taxiway and puts the airport in a prime spot for commercial development.
“I think there is going to be a lot of growth at the airport,” Brown said
Concerns were raised from airport users about how the changes would affect a proposed flight school, as well as affecting airport operations.
