Charges have been laid after an incident on the Detroit River.
Essex OPP and members of the RCMP Marine Unit, US Coast Guard, and US Border Patrol were conducting a joint security operation on the river near LaSalle on Thursday when a vessel was spotted with children aboard and no life jackets in sight.
Authorities say there were no child-sized jofe jackets on the boat, no bow rail, and with choppy conditions at the time, a strong possibility the children could fall into the water.
A 61-year-old Niagara Falls man is now facing charges of operating a non-human-powered pleasure craft without personal flotation devices or lifejackets of appropriate size for each person on board.
