A meeting is being held in Merlin tonight, where local residents will discuss the proposed realignment of a portion of Talbot Trail affected by erosion.
The meeting is open to both residential and agricultural property owners, as well as any other taxpayers and interested parties. Several municipal councillors are also expected to be on hand to answer questions, address concerns, and clarify issues.
A spokesperson for the concerned citizens group says a proposed plan to move the existing road back roughly 300 metres would cause major disruptions and forced division of private properties, as well as enormous costs for taxpayers.
Municipal council approved the first phase of the long-term plan back in July with the environmental assessment subject to a 60-day public review period.
So far there have been no financial implications associated with the recommendations. Municipal officials say funding for all phases of the project would be through the Municipal Capital Budget, subject to Council approval.
Tonight’s meeting at the Merlin Legion gets underway at 7 o’clock.
