A Chatham woman is making plans to travel and invest in her retirement after winning $100,000 in a recent lottery draw.
Melody Southgate matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the June 14 Lotto Max draw to win the $100,000 prize. She also won an additional $20 on her Lotto Max selection.
The 61-year-old said she is an occasional lottery player and decided to randomly log into her OLG account and purchase the ticket.
“I saw the email from OLG and thought it was a scam. Then I logged into my account and saw the big win. I still didn’t believe it until I spoke to someone at OLG,” she said in a news release.
Southgate said it took a few days for it to sink in that she had actually won the lottery. She added that the realization may finally hit her when the money is in her bank account.
“I’m planning to treat myself and my best friend with a trip to the UK. The rest will be invested by my trusted advisors for me to enjoy a nice retirement,” she said.
The winning ticket was purchased on OLG.ca.
