Residents in Chatham-Kent are being asked to provide input on how they feel their property tax dollars should be spent.
The municipality has launched an online survey to allow community members to express their thoughts on what services they deem important and whether spending should be increased or decreased.
The input collected will inform administration when developing next year’s municipal budget, entitled Budget 2023: Inspiring Chatham-Kent. The survey results will also be provided to Chatham-Kent Council prior to budget deliberations.
“The more information we have and the earlier we have it, the better we can understand the needs of the community,” said Steve Brown, Chatham-Kent’s director of budget and performance services.
The online survey will be open to the public on the Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website until October 31.
Those who miss their chance to share their opinions online are encouraged to contact their councillors at any time by email or phone.
The draft budget will be presented to council on January 11th.
Community consultation meetings will be held on January 18 and 19.
Budget Committee deliberations will take place on January 25, 26 and 31 with contingency dates set for February 1 and 2 if needed.
