Maroons To Collect Coats For Operation Cover Up

The Chatham Maroons are taking to the ice this weekend to support The Salvation Army’s annual coat drive.

The hockey club will host an “Operation Cover Up Night” on Sunday, as the team takes on the Sarnia Legionnaires.

Those attending the game at Memorial Arena are encouraged to bring gently used or new winter coats to donate, especially children’s coats and plus sizes. Volunteers will be on hand to collect the coats in the main lobby.

“Hockey fans everywhere dress warmly when they attend a game to cheer on their home team. How can we turn a blind eye to the fact that there are those less fortunate in Chatham-Kent that can’t afford a warm winter coat for themselves or their children?” the Maroons said in a news release.

The Salvation Army is also collecting coat donations at multiple locations across Chatham-Kent during the Operation Cover Up campaign from October 10-28. Those locations include:

  • The Salvation Army Church in Chatham.
  • Salvation Army Thrift Stores in Chatham, Wallaceburg and Ridgetown.
  • Jiffy Lube in Chatham.

The coats will be distributed to those in need between November 2-4.
