The Ontario Energy Board has approved the construction of a new natural gas pipeline in the Township of Dawn-Euphemia.
Enbridge Gas announced on Thursday that it had been given the green light to proceed with its $251 million Dawn to Corunna Replacement Project.
The project includes the construction of a new 36-inch diameter steel pipeline between the Corunna Compressor Station and the Dawn Operations Centre, which will begin in the spring of 2023. The pipeline is expected to be in service by November 1, 2023.
The pipeline will replace seven natural gas compressors that are nearing the end of their lifecycle at the Corunna Compressor Station. The compressors, which were installed between 1969 and 1974, will be decommissioned.
An independent consultant has provided a report to Enbridge, which details the steps required to protect the natural environment as the company moves forward with the upgrade to its natural gas infrastructure.
Consultations were also conducted with landowners, Indigenous communities, municipal stakeholders, interested parties, and the public regarding the various route alternatives for the pipeline.
