Road to Freedom is a tribute to people who never lost hope, and those who helped to keep that hope alive.

The Karen Schuessler Singers with feature vocalist Denise Pelley, come together to pay tribute to those who lived through this terrible episode of North American history as well as those who triumphed and those who helped.  Narrations are delivered by local historians Bryan and Shannon Prince.  These are the actual words of those men and women who were involved in the dramatic case of one-time Dresden and Chatham resident, Isaac Brown, who fled from New Orleans but was arrested as a fugitive slave in Philadelphia after revealing his whereabouts by contacting his family in Maryland.

The CD “Road to Freedom” won the 2009 Album of the Year awarded by the London Free Press.  This special evening will feature the release of Bryan Prince’s new book “Once More River To Cross” which features the story of Isaac Brown.

“Bryan Prince, intrepid historian and masterful storyteller, brings to vibrant life the long-forgotten story of Isaac Brown, a hunted fugitive slave and family man whose battle for freedom brought international attention to the injustices of an unbridled slave power.” — Kate Clifford Larson, Ph.D., author of Bound for the Promised Land: Harriet Tubman, Portrait of an American Hero and The Assassin’s Accomplice: Mary Surratt and the Plot to Kill Abraham Lincoln
