Local residents are being given the chance to provide their name suggestions for Chatham-Kent’s new semi-pro baseball team.

The management team for the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) franchise has launched a contest to name the new team.

“I think it’s something we should do to involve everybody and have fun,” said team owner and President Dom Dinelle.

Community members are encouraged to submit their ideas online on the Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website before January 20.

Five finalists will then be announced, with those individuals receiving tickets to the inaugural home opener for the 2024 season. The winner of the contest will be announced the following week and will receive a family pack of season tickets.

The Intercounty Baseball League approved the Chatham-Kent franchise last month for the 2024 season, which will be played at Fergie Jenkins Field.
