A Blenheim man is accused of trying to steal someone’s identity.
According to Chatham-Kent Police, the accused opened an online bank account on Sunday using someone else’s identification.
Two days later, the man went to the TD Canada bank on St Clair Street in Chatham and tried to open another account in the same name. However, staff at the bank recognized the man from previous fraudulent activities and called police.
Officers managed to track down the suspect that afternoon. A search turned up the IDs of three other people, all of which had photos of the accused.
The 44-year-old has been charged with identity fraud, three counts of uttering forged documents, and four counts of identity theft. He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
