Salvation Army Looking For Final Donations Ahead Of Holidays

With less than one week left before the Christmas holiday, the Salvation Army in Chatham-Kent is making one final push for donations.

The local chapter of the Salvation Army has reached 85 per cent of its $500,000 goal for the Red Kettle campaign and Christmas Hampers program, with around $70,000 remaining.

“We know everyone is tired, we know it’s a busy season in general for people. We are thankful for those who have been able to help us and we’re just asking for that continued support,” said Paul Stratton, the business manager for the Salvation Army.

Much of the money raised through the fundraisers helps to support families with food and toy purchases during the holiday season. The campaigns also support local programs and services, such as local thrift stores and food banks.

Around 965 families have registered for the Christmas Hampers program this year, Stratton said.

“We need help so that we can help others,” said Stratton. “So if people are able to help us by either volunteering their time or making the donations necessary, we can then ensure the people in need are helped.”

He said the Red Kettle campaign is still in need of dozens of volunteers to staff the kettle locations around the municipality. Anyone willing to volunteer their time is asked to contact the Salvation Army kettle coordinator at 519-354-8353.
