Authorities say the victim was walking on Richmond Street between Raleigh and West just before 6 o’clock Thursday morning when he was approached by a man asking for a light. The attacker then allegedly hit the victim with a blunt object.
The victim suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital for medical attention.
The only description provided of the accused is that he was wearing a black hoodie or jacket and beige pants.
Police are asking anyone with surveillance cameras in the neighbourhood to check their footage for evidence of the incident. As well, a man driving a black pickup truck reportedly stopped to talk to the victim. Police are asking this potential witness to come forward.
