Chatham-Kent is celebrating the Black men and women who have made the municipality what it is today.
In honour of Black History Month, a flag raising ceremony will be held at the Civic Centre at noon today.
The Josiah Henson Museum of African-Canadian History is offering in-person and virtual tours and honouring the life and legacy of Mary Ann Shadd Cary, a trailblazer across publishing, education and law, who made a profound mark in Canadian Black history. To celebrate the 200th anniversary of her birth, a series of videos will be published on the Ontario Heritage Trust’s YouTube channel in the next few weeks.
A number of events are being held at Red Barn Brewing in Blenheim, including Black History Jeopardy, hosted by the Buxton National Historic Site and Museum on the 9th and a Night with Jamaal Cody on the 14th, hosted by Buxton’s Next Generation.
Various events, including story times for children, are being held at the Chatham-Kent Public Library throughout the month.
