Chatham-Kent Police have made three arrests following a case of identity theft.
The victim called police early Tuesday morning to report someone made a number of online purchases using her credit card and tried to use her identity to buy new vehicles from dealerships in Chatham-Kent, Sarnia, and Listowel.
Police discovered one suspect, a woman accompanied by two men, was in negotiations with a Chatham dealership to buy a new vehicle and was scheduled to return to complete the transaction.
At 9 o’clock that morning, the woman was met by police at the dealership and two men were located a short distance away.
All three accused, from the Toronto area, were arrested and charged with identity theft and personation with intent to commit fraud. A 28-year-old man was additionally charged with six counts of failing to comply with a release order. All were transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
