An arrest has been made following a string of more than a dozen frauds across Essex County.
The Ontario Provincial Police said between February 28 and March 2, officers responded to 14 incidents of fraud known as the “grandparent scam.” Just two of the incidents resulted in a total loss of $15,000.
In these scams, the victim is contacted by someone posing as a family member who says they have been arrested and require cash for bail.
A suspect was captured on security cameras in two different incidents where cash was turned over. Authorities released a photo of the suspect on Friday and a 25-year-old Windsor woman was arrested on Monday. She is now charged with four counts of fraud over $5,000.
Anyone with further information about these incidents is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
