Corunna OPP Officer Cleared of Criminal Wrongdoing

Ontario’s police watchdog has closed the book on an investigation into injuries suffered by an elderly woman following a crash in Corunna.

On November 16, 2022, a woman was using a crosswalk at the intersection of St Clair Boulevard and St Clair Parkway when struck by an OPP cruiser.

Investigators say the officer made a left-hand turn, hitting the 82-year-old victim and causing fractures of her left leg.

In his report, Special Investigations Unit Director Joseph Martino said while there is no doubt the officer was responsible for the collision, he is satisfied that the officer’s indiscretion may fairly be characterized as a momentary lapse of attention, which is generally not enough to lay criminal charges.
