While most locals call the park and beach area in Mitchell’s Bay, Mitchell’s Bay Beach, that’s not its official name.
Chatham-Kent council will likely change this faux pas, by officially renaming Dover Beach to Mitchell’s Bay Beach at tonight’s council meeting.
The current name of Dover Beach reflects the location of the beach in the former Township of Dover, which was swallowed up by Chatham-Kent 25 years ago.
The change is being brought forward not only for continuity and branding reasons, as signage in the area is presented as Mitchell’s Bay, but also for safety reasons, as emergency responders will know exactly where to go.
