Winds Could Bring More Flooding to Lake Erie Shoreline

Wet, windy weather has local conservation officials keeping an eye on the Lake Erie shoreline once again.

Some forecasts are calling for strong winds to continue through the day today with gusts as high as 60 kilometres an hour at times. Officials with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority say there is some risk of flooding along Erie Shore Drive. Although any recent flooding has been isolated, officials say lake levels have now risen back up above where they were at this time of year in 2021 and 2022.

Due to high lake levels and wave conditions, there is also a risk that wave action could damage shoreline protection works and cause erosion all along the Lake Erie shoreline in Chatham-Kent and Elgin County.

Residents are reminded to use extra caution and avoid the shoreline should conditions get rough.
