Charges have been laid after two people were found passed out in a vehicle in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Police received a call shortly after 8:30 Thursday night to conduct a wellness check on the people in a vehicle in a Richmond Street parking lot.

Officers found a man passed out in the driver’s seat and a woman in the passenger seat, and suspected the man was impaired by a substance.

He was taken to police headquarters for tests, and a search of the suspect turned up suspected fentanyl.

The 36-year-old Chatham man was charged with impaired driving and possessing a controlled substance. He was released with conditions and a date in court later this month.
