A local landmark is no more.
Built in the 1840s, the Guyitt House on Talbot Trail in Palmyra has been vacant since the mid-1980s. Since then, it has become something of a tourist attraction because of its dilapidated state, and is said to be the most photographed house in Canada.
Last fall, the municipality issued a demolition order, saying the building was unsafe and in violation of bylaw 151-2015 under the Building Code Act.
Despite appeals and public outcry to save the farmhouse and let it continue to naturally deteriorate, it was torn down yesterday.
