A local business owner will take home nearly $150,000 after purchasing the winning ticket in a 50/50 fundraiser in support of Chatham-Kent’s hospital.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation said the winner of this year’s Igniting Healthcare 50/50 FUNdraiser is John Schinkel of Chatham, owner and president of Schinkels Gourmet Meats.
The foundation said Schinkel, a long-standing supporter of local healthcare, was blown away when he learned that he had won.
A grand total of $282,580 was raised, just over the $253,680 raised during last year’s fundraiser.
Schinkel will receive $141,290 of the total, while the other half of the money raised from the draw will support the purchase of a Sterrad Unit at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, which is used to safely sterilize medical instruments and materials.
The CKHA Foundation drew the winning ticket on Wednesday outside the new MCH Homes office on St Clair Street in Chatham.
