Construction on a new long-term care facility in Chatham-Kent is underway, following years of pandemic-related delays.

Ontario Minister of Long-Term Care Paul Calandra was in Chatham Monday afternoon to announce the start of the project that will replace Meadow Park Nursing Home with a brand-new facility.

The facility and its residents will move from the current Sandy Street location to McNaughton Avenue West and Keil Trail North.

The nursing home will be renamed St. Angela’s Meadow Care Centre and will provide 61 new and 99 upgraded beds in private and semi-private rooms.

The new building also will feature larger resident common areas and air conditioning throughout the home.

The redevelopment project was initially announced in November 2020, however, it was repeatedly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The upgraded 160-bed nursing home is expected to welcome its first residents by spring 2026.
