Canada’s weather agency is warning of extremely hot and humid conditions over the next three days.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Chatham-Kent with temperatures expected to reach 30 C on Wednesday. While Thursday will be slightly cooler, humidex values are expected in the upper thirties. And on Friday, the temperature will be extremely hot with humidex values reaching 40 C for many areas.

There will be little relief in the evenings with temperatures only expected to fall to the low twenties.

The weather agency said the hot and humid air may also result in deteriorating air quality, which could cause the Air Quality Health Index to approach the high-risk category.

Cooler temperatures are expected on Saturday.

Local residents are advised to watch for the effects of heat illness, which include swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Everyone should also drink plenty of water and stay in a cool place. Never leave people or pets in a parked car.

Over the next three days, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent is opening municipal offices and libraries to anyone who needs a place to cool off and have a drink. Hope Haven at 183 Wellington St. W in Chatham is also available for cooling off.
