A planned closure of the Third Street Bridge will be delayed due to recent heavy rainfall.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent said the span over the Thames River will now close a day later on Tuesday at 7 a.m. for the replacement of deficient asphalt.
Brendan Falkner, CK’s manager of engineering, told CKXS News last week that the asphalt failed to pass necessary quality control testing following a $14 million rehabilitation project that took place between May 2021 and August 2022.
The contractor tasked with the rehabilitation, Toronto Zenith, will be completing the repairs at their expense.
The bridge will remain closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic until Friday at 7 p.m. Detours will be posted around the construction during the closure.
