No injuries have been reported following a large scrap yard fire west of Chatham.

Five fire stations and roughly 45 fire fighters responded to A Gold & Sons near Bloomfield Road and Queens Line at 11:40 Wednesday morning.

Officials are still unsure what sparked the blaze, but say roughly 20 scrap cars and numerous bins of tires were burning. Because the damage was limited to scrap, officials say there is no damage estimate.

A general fire alarm was called due to the extreme heat, strong winds and the size of the fire, and a section of Queens Line was closed to allow for an uninterrupted water shuttle.

The Office of the Fire Marshal was contacted due to the size and nature of the fire for informational purposes only.
