On the heels of an incident involving weapons near Victor Lauriston Public School in Chatham on Monday, authorities are releasing more information following a similar report almost two weeks ago.
Shortly after 11:30 the morning of October 5th, Chatham-Kent Police officers responded to McNaughton Avenue East in Chatham following a 911 call reporting a man standing on his front porch brandishing a firearm.
Officers blocked off the intersection of Taylor Avenue and McNaughton and schools in the area were notified.
However, authorities determined the report was false, there was no threat to public safety, and the investigation has since been closed.
Police are reminding everyone of the seriousness of making false calls to 911, saying it diverts valuable resources from genuine emergencies and can cause unnecessary panic and disruption in the community. Authorities say making a false emergency report is a criminal offense and can lead to legal consequences.
