Elderly Blenheim Man Dies Following Bloomfield Rd. Crash

A two-vehicle crash south of Chatham has turned fatal.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to the collision on Bloomfield Road in the area of Fourteenth Line and Fifteenth Line shortly before 9 a.m. on October 4. Two vehicles were travelling north when one rear-ended the other, causing it to crash into a ditch.

Both drivers were taken to hospital with what authorities initially called non-life-threatening injuries.

However, police announced on Tuesday that the driver of the vehicle that entered the ditch, an 84-year-old Blenheim man, has since died as a result of the crash.

The other driver, a 36-year-old Blenheim man, has been charged with careless driving.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Kristen Charron at 519-355-1092 or kristenc@chatham-kent.ca. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers.
