A routine traffic stop has resulted in drug trafficking charges for a Whitby man.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers stopped a vehicle on St. Clair Street in Chatham on Tuesday after conducting a routine check of the driver’s license and learned that he had been prohibited from driving.
Following a search, officers uncovered $14,500 worth of suspected fentanyl, a cell phone and a large amount of Canadian currency.
As a result, the accused is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of driving while prohibited and two counts of driving while suspended.
He has been remanded into custody following a bail hearing.
