The water tower in Mitchell’s Bay will be getting an upgrade in the new year.
In order to extend the lifespan of the 10 elevated water storage tanks in Chatham-Kent, the municipality has conducted multiple rehabilitation projects over the last several years. The water tower in Mitchell’s Bay will now be the sixth tank to be upgraded, with construction slated to begin in the spring of 2024.
The CK Public Utility Commission has awarded the construction contract to Landmark Municipal Services from Burlington, which submitted the lowest tender bid for the project at $3,317,363.60.
The cost of the project will be paid for through the 2023/2024 CK PUC lifecycle budget.
According to the PUC, the existing elevated water storage tank in Mitchell’s Bay was originally constructed in 1993 and over time it has been exposed to extreme weather conditions leading to deterioration of the inner and outer coatings.
The rehabilitation project will include a recoating of the interior and exterior surfaces of the tank as well as the installation of a new mixing system to prevent water quality deterioration
Construction is scheduled to be completed by October 15, 2024.
