A Chatham man has been arrested following a violent break in over the long weekend.
Shortly after 7:30 Sunday evening, Chatham-Kent Police say a man armed with a knife forced his way into an apartment on Delaware Avenue and threatened the residents.
Authorities say the man fled when police were called, but officers found him in the backyard of a nearby home. The accused was taken into custody and the knife was recovered.
A search of the suspect turned up suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl.
The 42-year-old is charged with break and enter, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
He was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
