Changes are coming to the elementary and high school in Dresden.

Starting in the fall, students at Dresden Area Central School will begin class at 8am instead of the current 9:15am, and students will be dismissed at 2:20pm. For high school students at Lambton Kent Composite School, the morning bell will ring five minutes later than the current schedule, starting 8:05 with classes letting out at 2:15.

Buses serving the two schools will be converted to a K-12 integrated service model with both elementary and high school students riding together.

Officials with the Lambton Kent District School Board say bus stop locations will remain the same and although some routes may change, there will be no substantial change to average riding times.

A spokesperson for the board says cost savings through switching to the integrated transportation model is just one of the reasons behind the change.

“This change also allows a more efficient student transportation routing solution for the Dresden community that ultimately will reduce the school bus vehicle emissions & carbon footprint without a service reduction for students/families,” Public Relations Officer Caress Lee said in an email to CKXS News.

Final transportation details are expected to be available on parent portals after August 26th.
