More kudos for a local historian.
Shannon Prince, recently retired curator of the Buxton National Historic Site and Museum, was honoured on Tuesday with the prestigious Luminary of the Year Award at the Southern Ontario Tourism Awards.
The award recognizes an extraordinary individual whose remarkable contributions have illuminated the tourism industry with an unmatched dedication, unwavering passion, and relentless commitment.
Prince began her career at the Buxton Museum in 1999, becoming the longest curator to serve at the museum. She is also a distinguished academic, contributing to the field of Underground Railroad research while working with several universities and historical organizations from around the world.
Prince, along with her husband Bryan, was also recently awarded the Order of Canada for her achievements and contributions to the field.
During the tourism award event on Tuesday, the Dresden Night Market was also named as a finalist for the Sustainability Trailblazer of the Year award for its reusable cup program.
