Staff at a Chatham retirement home have a new contract in place.

Employees at Eden Villa Retirement and Assisted Living recently voted 78% in favour of a new three-year collective agreement.

Officials with the Southwestern Ontario Healthcare and Service Workers Union, CLAC Local 303 say the deal provides wage increases, a shift-premium increase from 15 to 30 cents per hour, the introduction of a 15-cent-per-hour weekend premium, and an increase to the uniform allowance. Other improvements were made to vacation time, contract language regarding overtime, master schedules, and sick pay.

“A very positive working relationship has led to productive bargaining and notable improvements to our members’ compensation at Eden Villa,” says CLAC representative Ryan Griffioen in a news release. “We hope these increases will go a long way to attract and retain good staff and ultimately improve the working environment.”

Eden Villa employs 20 Local 303 members working as RPNs, PSWs, cooks, dietary aides, and housekeeping staff.
