A standoff with police in Chatham has landed charges for a local man.
Chatham-Kent Police were called to a Sheldon Avenue property shortly before 8 o’clock Wednesday morning and say a distraught woman had been calling for help from a second floor window and said there was a man armed with a gun inside the home.
Officers were able to help the woman to safety, and after negotiating with police, the accused voluntarily left the building and was taken into custody. Officers searched the home and seized a black replica handgun.
Further investigation showed the pair got into an argument when the man allegedly assaulted the woman.
The 30-year-old suspect has been charged with assault and was released from custody with conditions and a date in court later this month.
