Murray Street Bridge, Wallaceburg.

Commuters in Wallaceburg will need to consider an alternate route on Wednesday due to a planned closure of one of the town’s most travelled bridges.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent said the Murray Street Bridge will be closed from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Wednesday to allow for balancing and testing of the moveable spans.

During this time, the bridge will not be operable for larger boats, however, smaller boats that do not require the bridge to be opened will be accommodated.

Last year the bridge underwent a $1.9 million rehabilitation project, which also included upgrades to the steel bridge deck, various concrete repairs, and improvements to the lift mechanisms/infrastructure.
