UPDATED: Three Injured During Weapon Incident In Downtown Chatham

Three people had to be taken to hospital following a violent fight in downtown Chatham.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a weapons incident on King Street West shortly after 2 a.m. on Monday.

Shortly after 4 a.m., police issued a plea to the public to avoid sections of King Street West between 4th and 5th Streets and between 5th and 6th Streets as well as the Tecumseh Park area as officers conducted an active investigation.

Authorities said a fight between four people took place in the area of William Street North and Murray Street. Three of the four were injured and had to be taken to hospital for treatment. Two have since been released from hospital while the third was transferred to a hospital in London.

Police officials have confirmed the individuals suffered “puncture wound” injuries.

King Street and Tecumseh Park were closed while officers conducted an investigation but both have since been reopened.

According to police, this was an isolated incident and there is no concern for public safety.

It is unknown at this time if police are looking for the fourth person involved in the altercation or if any arrests have been made.
